“In every conceivable manner, the family is a link to our past, bridge to our future.”
- Alex Haley
In Waterproof, a short directed by Ross Kaufman, three generations of a large Catholic family waterproof their community in South Hampton by starting and expanding a tradition of lifeguard programs. As an additional editor, I made cuts for distribution with Collective Eye.
In People’s Place, a short co-edited with Armando Croda, a community redefines chosen family and highlights the neighborly compassion found in a Kingston non-profit space.
Part of my pursuing a graduate degree in Biography and Memoir at the Graduate Center is recognizing the universality across forms of life writing, whether on paper or in film. Like any good therapy session or the stories that stretch back to ancient mythology, the role of family is inescapable. Generationally it allows us to contextualize our existence in history, community, and systems. And personally family, both biological and chosen, lies at the heart of human connection.
As I’ve explored in other tabs, I specialize in working with directors telling their own family stories. This comes with a sensitive approach to providing objectivity in crafting memory into story. I also respect the vulnerability required of subjects and directors to share their stories. In that spirit, below is a video I edited as a gift to my Dad on his 60th birthday (because you might as well know I was a cute baby and weird kid.)
